My Xtreme Hike Story
Steve Ripple
Fundraising for Grand Canyon Fall Xtreme Hike
Steve Ripple
To all,
It’s that time of year again. Cindi and I, along with a few other guides, will take 25 people into the Grand Canyon in late September for a 20-mile hike to raise money for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. For anybody who is new to this “ask,” Cindi and I have a niece and nephew with Cystic Fibrosis. They are both doing very well thanks to treatments and medications that the Foundation and their scientific partners have developed over the years. Our goal is to raise money to help the foundation continue to fund these medical advances so that one day there will be a Cure!
This hike will be a bit different than what we have done in the past. A devastating fire that started in July wiped out the North Rim Lodge and cabins where we usually spend one night before or after hiking across the canyon. Thus, we are unable to hike our usual 24-mile, Rim to Rim trail. Instead, we put together a combination of 3 trails that will take us down to the river and back via the South Rim. It will still be a very challenging hike with nearly the same amount of elevation change. We and all the hikers are training hard as we work to raise money for the CF Foundation.
No donation is too small and certainly no donation is too large! Haha! We hope you will be generous and support this wonderful Foundation so that the scientific research can continue to improve lives and increase the “tomorrows” for those with this disease!
With much appreciation,
Steve and Cindi
There is currently no cure for cystic fibrosis and too many people with CF die young. I’m hiking to help change that reality.
CF is a genetic, life-shortening disease that devastates the lungs, pancreas, and other vital organs. CF makes it difficult to breathe and fight life-threatening infections, often leading to extensive lung damage and respiratory failure.
Every person born with cystic fibrosis is on a unique journey and experiences this challenging disease differently. While progress has been made, a long road lies ahead for far too many people fighting this terrible disease. We need a cure so that everyone with CF has a better chance to live a long, healthy life.
Will you help us end cystic fibrosis?
By donating to my fundraising goal, you have the power to advance the research and science needed to drive our shared dream forward – a cure for everyone with CF.
