My Xtreme Hike Story

Fundraising for Grand Canyon Fall Xtreme Hike
Gabrielle Saluzzi
In September, I am hiking 24 miles in the Grand Canyon, rim to rim, to raise awareness and money to fund research for a cure for Cystic Fibrosis (CF) through the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. CF is a genetic, life-shortening disease that devastates the lungs, pancreas, and other vital organs, impacting approximately 40,000 Americans. CF makes it difficult to breathe and fight life-threatening infections, often leading to extensive lung damage and respiratory failure.
As some of you may know, on New Year's Eve 2014, my aunt went into respiratory failure and was placed on a ventilator for 6 months while she fought to survive. Against all odds, she received a double lung transplant in June 2015 and a second chance at life. This year is extra special because June 2025 marks 10 YEARS since that lifesaving surgery. I am hiking for her, for others living with CF and to support the CFF in their research for a cure.
While incredible progress has been made for those who have CF, there is still no cure for this devastating disease and many lives are cut far too short. Please help me reach my fundraising goal by donating to my Xtreme Hike fundraising campaign!
Every person born with cystic fibrosis is on a unique journey and experiences this challenging disease differently. While progress has been made, a long road lies ahead for far too many people fighting this terrible disease. We need a cure so that everyone with CF has a better chance to live a long, healthy life.
Will you help us end cystic fibrosis?
By donating to my fundraising goal, you have the power to advance the research and science needed to drive our shared dream forward - a cure for everyone with CF.
