Have you ever considered how much we breathe with ease and don't give it a second thought? Our body just inhales and exhales...although sometimes we have to help it along when anxious or under the weather. When someone is battling Cystic Fibrosis their breaths aren't always so simple. Sure, their body pushes air in and out without conscious thought, but the depth of breath, the ease of an inhale or exhale, the unawareness of their body simply oxygenating its system comes with a catch. There is often strain to get a full breath, congestion and pressure with an inhale or exhalation, coughing fits when they try to pull in all the air their body desires. Imagine that feeling of a really bad cold or illness always... Imagine knowing that you will always feel that way, like you're running in really cold dry air even when its warm and humid outside... Imagine understanding that this constriction can lead to life threatening infections with little to no warning or that your lungs may betray their job inside your chest at the cost of your livelihood. This is just a portion of what living with Cystic Fibrosis is like.
There is currently no cure for cystic fibrosis and too many people with CF die young. I’m walking to help change that reality.
CF is a genetic, life-shortening disease that devastates the lungs, pancreas, and other vital organs. CF makes it difficult to breathe and fight life-threatening infections, often leading to extensive lung damage and respiratory failure.
Every person born with cystic fibrosis is on a unique journey and experiences this challenging disease differently. While progress has been made, a long road lies ahead for far too many people fighting this terrible disease. We need a cure so that everyone with CF has a better chance to live a long, healthy life.
Will you help us end cystic fibrosis?
