This is our fourth year walking in the CF Great Strides walk, and our daughter Lena is about to turn 4 years old. She’s full of life — she loves walking our dog Ben, playing on the trampoline, ice skating, rollerblading, swimming, and pretending she's being a princess. If you met her, you’d never guess the challenges she faces every single day.

Lena has cystic fibrosis (CF), a genetic, life-shortening disease that affects the lungs, pancreas, and other vital organs. To stay healthy, she does two breathing treatments every day. She takes pills when she wakes up, before bed, and with every single meal and snack — just so her body can absorb nutrients and stay strong.

This isn’t what childhood should look like — not for Lena, and not for the thousands of other kids just like her. While CF treatments have come a long way, there is still no cure. Too many families live with the weight of uncertainty, watching their kids fight a disease that never takes a day off.

But we walk because we believe in a brighter future. A future where Lena can just be a kid — no treatments, no pills, no limits. Just skating, swimming, and being a princess.
