2024 was the greatest year we could have ever imagined! We got to welcome our perfect, sweet and beautiful little Delilah into the world! When she flashes her dimpled smiles, we fall more and more in love! This first year of life, Delilah has given us a fair share of surprises; she was born with a congenital heart defect (with which we got the 'all clear' in October), had an extended NICU stay, and just when we thought we were on stable ground, she was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis at 1 month old.
When we heard the initial CF diagnosis, we were shocked. We had no know family history of CF and weren't even sure what it was. As anyone would do, we began to Google. This only heighten our fears and we began to worry what Delilah's life would look like. We were left with more questions than answers, which speaks to the complexity of CF.
Meeting with the Cystic Fibrosis team at Children's Mercy Hospital eased all our fears, answered all our questions, and gave us a positive outlook on CF. Meeting the team completely changed our outlook on CF, and even what Delilah's life would be like. One member of her team in particular said something that sticks with us: "The life you envisioned for Delilah will be the life she lives."
Because of all the research, Cystic Fibrosis is no longer something to fear. Yes, Delilah's day to day life looks a little different than some, but she gets to be a kid just like everyone else. We are determined to keep Delilah happy and healthy and continue to fundraise so all who are living with CF can one day have a cure!
