My Great Strides Story
CATHERINE SWEENEY
Fundraising for Louisville Great Strides
CATHERINE SWEENEY
There is currently no cure for cystic fibrosis and too many people with CF die young. I’m walking to help change that reality.
CF is a genetic, life-shortening disease that devastates the lungs, pancreas, and other vital organs. CF makes it difficult to breathe and fight life-threatening infections, often leading to extensive lung damage and respiratory failure.
Every person born with cystic fibrosis is on a unique journey and experiences this challenging disease differently. While progress has been made, a long road lies ahead for far too many people fighting this terrible disease. We need a cure so that everyone with CF has a better chance to live a long, healthy life.
On December 1, 2014, I was blessed with the birth of my grandson, Samuel John Sweeney. I was overjoyed and in seventh heaven when he was born. Shortly after his birth, Samuel was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis. Samuel will be 10 years old on December 1st, and he is a happy, funny, and loving daredevil who loves playing ice hockey. We want Samuel to live to become a cantankerous old man.
My family is dedicated to defeating this dreadful disease. Part of that effort is to participate in the Great Strides Walk. Great Strides is a 5k walk to raise awareness & money for the search to find a cure and improve the lives of those with CF. It happens May 10, 2025, at 3:00 pm for check-in and at 4:00 pm the walk starts at EP Tom Sawyer State Park – Fitness Loop, 3000 Freys Hill Rd and I plan to be there.
This is where you come in. I am hoping you will show your support by joining the walk or donating money to find a cure or both. To join our team or donate, click the “register” button or “donate” button at the top of my personal page. Every penny helps! Every prayer helps! The name of our team is “Samuel Strong.” Together, we can add tomorrows to Samuel's life and others suffering with this terrible disease! Together, we can make CF stand for Cure Found.
Will you help us end cystic fibrosis?
By donating to my fundraising goal, you have the power to advance the research and science needed to drive our shared dream forward – a cure for everyone with CF.
