Fundraising for New Jersey CF Cycle for Life 2026

My dad has been defeating CF his whole life and it has been about 30 years since his diagnosis. But most of you probably have no idea. He doesn’t feel the need to share, he just lives his life and takes the struggles in stride. But I want to share a few things about him.
First, he never complains. Not ever. My dad was my and my sisters’ soccer coach for 20 years combined. It all started when I was 5 and refused try soccer until my dad offered to coach. The rest is history. He not only coached, but trained our teams, helped dozens of girls get recruited into college, and traveled the country with us doing what we love. Lugging equipment and ball bags from one field to the next. Bringing all the energy and passion to every single game and training session. My dad is always there for us. Sophomore year in college my friends and I went to Daytona Beach for spring break. But we had to be 21 to check into the hotel and we were still 20. My dad got a ticket on our flight and flew down to Florida just so we could check into the hotel. I believe he then rented a car to go make a turf sale (LOL) in Georgia and then flew home.
But that’s my dad. Always going above and beyond to make things happen for the people he loves. He is friends with literally everyone he meets, can talk with anyone, and somehow knows everyone on the planet. My dad is my inspiration to dig deeper when things get hard. When I feel like giving up during a tough workout or slowing down during a run. Having my babies, feeling like I couldn’t go on a second longer. That’s when I think of my dad’s strength most. That’s what I remind my kids when they step on the field or court. “When you feel like giving up, you push even harder than you started. Giving up is not an option.”
My dad continues to defy the odds and approaches his life circumstances with determination, strength, and positivity. He is the best Bubba ever to his 6 grandchildren and never fails to send a long message of inspiration before every one of their games if he can’t be there to watch in person. He is also still the turf master, even though I am currently staring at a mud pit in my backyard waiting for it to magically turn into turf.
I am eternally grateful for the doctors at Colombia, specifically Dr. Emily DiMango, who have essentially saved my dad’s life with all of the break through trial meds and treatments over the years. There WILL be a cure for my dad and everyone battling CF.

CF is a genetic, life-shortening disease that devastates the lungs, pancreas, and other vital organs. CF makes it difficult to breathe and fight life-threatening infections, often leading to extensive lung damage and respiratory failure.
Every person born with cystic fibrosis is on a unique journey and experiences this challenging disease differently. While progress has been made, a long road lies ahead for far too many people fighting this terrible disease. We need a cure so that everyone with CF has a better chance to live a long, healthy life.
