When Blake was 6 weeks old, his pediatrician called us and asked us if we were sitting down. When she told us Blake had cystic fibrosis I don’t remember what she said afterwards, but I knew things would be different for Blake going forward. I hated that. He’s a baby.

Cystic fibrosis is an inherited disorder that causes severe damage to the lungs, pancreas, and digestive system. CF affects the cells that make mucus, sweat and digestive juices. These fluids, also called secretions, are usually thin and slippery to protect the body’s internal tubes and ducts and make them smooth pathways. But in people with CF, a changed gene causes the secretions to become sticky and thick. The secretions plug up pathways, especially in the lungs and pancreas.

Blake is currently on medication and goes through breathing treatments twice a day.

The leaps and bounds that have been made in the fight to find a cure for CF just in the last 10 years are incredible. Life expectancy is now into the 50s and 60s.

Blake is the best little dude. He deserves, and is getting, the best treatment possible. We hope to one day live in a world where CF stands for Cure Found.

If you've made it this far,

thank you for allowing me to share Blake's story.
