Support the Fight Against Cystic Fibrosis!
What is Cystic Fibrosis:Cystic Fibrosis, or “CF”, affects those diagnosed differently, Mutations found on both copies of a specific gene cause proteins throughout the body to be made incorrectly. This mutation affects the lungs, pancreas, and other areas throughout the body in different ways and to different severities. The disease compromises the immune system, and ability for the body to process food and oxygen correctly, which can lead to long term and varying health issues that include malnutrition and breathing complications.
According to the Journal of Cystic Fibrosis there are around 166,000 people affected worldwide by chronic CF, with around 40,000 living in the United States, somewhere around 16% of those affected are on long-term treatment programs that greatly extend their life expectancy through medication and treatment. Supporting the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation! Fundraising is vital to ensuring the continued progress of CF research.
Despite recent achievements, there is no cure, and people with CF continue to lose their lives to this disease. Treatments are expensive and Cures are close, fundraising is vital to ending the impact of this disease in our world. The CF Foundation Ride is hosted by the Merrimack Valley Trail Riders Association, a trail riding and trail preservation association, and every dollar is donated to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation to support continued early diagnosis, treatment, and care.
