Alex Frunzi

My name is Alex Frunzi and I’m a proud 26-year member of the Local 28 Sheet Metal Workers Union at Stony Brook University. This year, I’m training for my fourth Ironman Triathlon, which consists of a 2.4-mile swim, 112-mile bike ride and a 26.2-mile marathon run. IronMan Jacksonville in Jacksonville, Florida will be held on May 16, 2026. This year, it's about more than challenging myself and pushing myself to my limits, but to raise funds and awareness for Cystic Fibrosis which affects so many of our loved ones.

Cystic Fibrosis is a relentless disease that affects the lungs and digestive system, making every breath a challenge. I’ve seen firsthand how it impacts families, the strength it demands, the resilience it builds, and the battles fought quietly every single day. Compared to what those living with CF endure, the early mornings and physical exhaustion feel small.

As a union worker, I believe in standing shoulder to shoulder for those who need support. Brotherhood and sisterhood doesn’t stop at the job site and this race is my way of putting action behind that belief and pushing my body to its limits so we can push closer to not only better treatments and more awareness, but ultimately, a cure.

The Ironman isn’t just about endurance, it's about heart and refusing to quit.

When I cross that finish line, I won’t just be carrying my own determination, I’ll be carrying the names, stories, and hopes of everyone affected by Cystic Fibrosis, including our own, Tina Tumillo.

Thank you for supporting me on this journey. Together, we can help make every breath count.
