My Great Strides Story
Kaeti Roberts
Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a progressive, genetic disease that primarily affects the lungs, digestive system, and other organs in the body. It is caused by mutations in the CFTR gene, leading to the production of thick, sticky mucus that clogs airways and traps bacteria, resulting in chronic infections and respiratory complications. Approximately 70,000 people worldwide live with CF, with around 30,000 cases in the United States. Despite advances in treatments and therapies, the median life expectancy for those with CF is improving but remains significantly shortened compared to the general population.
For me, life is a delicate balance of navigating the challenges of cystic fibrosis while embracing the joys and responsibilities of being married with three kids. My spouse and I work together as a team to provide a loving and supportive environment for our children, ensuring they grow up with the strength and compassion that come from understanding our unique family dynamics. Each day brings its share of triumphs and trials, whether it's managing medical appointments, staying on top of treatments, or simply cherishing moments of laughter and connection as a family.
Our kids are a source of immense pride and motivation. Their curiosity, resilience, and love remind us of the importance of creating a fulfilling life, no matter the circumstances. Together, we aim to advocate for greater awareness and resources for those living with cystic fibrosis, while also building memories that will last a lifetime.
