My Great Strides Story
Shantel McBee
Fundraising for Sacramento Great Strides 2026
Shantel McBee
There is currently no cure for cystic fibrosis and too many people with CF die young. I'm walking to help change that reality.
CF is a genetic, life-shortening disease that devastates the lungs, pancreas, and other vital organs. CF makes it difficult to breathe and fight life-threatening infections, often leading to extensive lung damage and respiratory failure.
Every person born with cystic fibrosis is on a unique journey and experiences this challenging disease differently. While progress has been made, a long road lies ahead for far too many people fighting this terrible disease. We need a cure so that everyone with CF has a better chance to live a long, healthy life.
Will you help us end cystic fibrosis?
By donating to my fundraising goal, you have the power to advance the research and science needed to drive our shared dream forward – a cure for everyone with CF.
My son Damion is 10 years old, and every day he wakes up and fights a battle that most people will never see. Cystic fibrosis affects his lungs, his energy, and the simple things many of us take for granted-but it has never taken his strength, his courage, or his ability to smile through it all.
As his parent, it's hard to put into words what it feels like to watch your child go through this. The treatments, the worry, the "what ifs"… they don't ever fully go away. But neither does hope.
We are fighting for something bigger-for a cure. Not just for Damion, but for every child and family facing cystic fibrosis. A future where they can breathe easier, live longer, and truly just be kids without limits.
If you're able to donate, no matter how small, it truly makes a difference. And if you can't, sharing this post helps more than you know. Awareness matters. Compassion matters. People like YOU matter.
Thank you for standing with us, supporting us, and helping us fight for a cure
