My Great Strides Story
Fundraising for San Antonio Great Strides
Tera Breeden
I was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis at birth in 1982 and am now proud to say that I turned 43 years old as of this past February! Living with CF is no easy task as each day is consumed with lots of pills, 5 hours worth of breathing treatments and airway clearance, all simply in an attempt to keep lung infections at bay and to help my digestive system and the rest of my body fight off the increased mucus which is produced due to the faulty CFTR gene in those with CF. I was also diagnosed with CFRD-Cystic Fibrosis Related Diabetes in January 2017, which adds a whole host of extra struggles and medications (insulin).
Both of which, CF and CF Related Diabetes, take a lot of work, in treatments, and physical and emotional toll as well. My family, friends, and I have been participating in Great Strides for over 30 years and will continue to do so until a cure has been found. There have been a lot of medical advancements over the years, including Trikafta, which is a gene modifier and one that has been hugely helpful to myself and others, thanks to those that have donated to events like this one. However, it is in no way a cure and comes with side effects, such as added mental side effects for me and many others on it.
My family and I would love for you to join Tera's Team in this fight against CF either in person or virtually with our walk this year to raise much needed awareness and donations for this cause that is so near and dear to my heart.
Much love and blessings to you all!
CF is a genetic, life-shortening disease that devastates the lungs, pancreas, and other vital organs. CF makes it difficult to breathe and fight life-threatening infections, often leading to extensive lung damage and respiratory failure.
Every person born with cystic fibrosis is on a unique journey and experiences this challenging disease differently. While progress has been made, a long road lies ahead for far too many people fighting this terrible disease. We need a cure so that everyone with CF has a better chance to live a long, healthy life.
Will you help us end cystic fibrosis?
By donating to my fundraising goal, you have the power to advance the research and science needed to drive our shared dream forward - a cure for everyone with CF.
