My local CF (cystic fibrosis) Foundation chapter wants to host a party on September 10 to honor me and other outstanding individuals in my community. Part of accepting this honor I have committed to raise money to help the Foundation in its mission to not only control CF but ultimately cure it. My son, Declan, was diagnosed with CF when he was only a few weeks old. CF is a devastating genetic disease that affects the lungs and digestive system. We feel blessed to live in a time when their are so many therapies and drugs that help us slow the disease's destructive progress. But we still need your help and we need it now! Sixty years ago children usually didn't live long enough to attend elementary school. Children born the same year as Declan are now expected to live into their 40’s. That is amazing progress....but it is not good enough. My dream is that we wont need to worry about whether or not he will need to have a lung transplant or live on oxygen in the future. I hope that one day we wont need to rely on enzymes for Declan to be able to digest and absorb his food. Soon we won’t need to do breathing treatments and strap him into a chest vest because one day we will have a cure. We will reach that one day through generous people like you.
