My Xtreme Hike Story
Liz Hammel
Fundraising for 15th Annual Xtreme Hike Massachusetts 2026
Liz Hammel
Over the past 22 years, ever since Maeve's CF diagnosis at age 2, friends and family have been incredibly generous supporting my various fundraising challenges for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. From the 200 mile Reach the Beach relay races across New Hampshire, to the Burlington Great Strides walks, to the 20 mile TAM (Trail Around Middlebury) race, Miles for Maeve has raised a lot of money over the past couple of decades! A knee injury means I'm not running much anymore, but I am hiking, so when Victoria, my friend and "fellow" CF mom suggested the Xtreme Hike Massachusetts, I knew it was the next challenge for me, so I joined the Green Mountain Gang.
There have been amazing advancements in therapies for CF during Maeve’s lifetime, thanks to generous donations to research, but there’s still work to do. Maeve is thriving, thanks to her dedication to her health and taking the medications that have changed her and so many others with CF's lives. Unfortunately, there are some people living with CF who cannot benefit from the modulators, yet, and these therapies are not a cure.
Will you help us end cystic fibrosis?
By donating to my fundraising goal, you have the power to advance the research and science needed to drive our shared dream forward – a cure for everyone with CF.
