My Breathe Team Story
Declan Sheehan
In 1969, when my Aunt was just an infant, she was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis, a disease that severely impacts both quality of life and life expectancy. Prior to 1980, most individuals with CF didn’t live past their 20s. As my Aunt grew older, it became clear that she was struggling, yet she continued to push forward despite her declining health. Through ongoing care and determination, she was fortunate enough to survive. However, at 46, she needed a double-lung transplant. After what felt like the longest night of our lives, she emerged from surgery alive, and continues to fight to this day.
She is the heart and soul of our family, teaching us what true strength really means. By the grace of God, she is still with us today. I am running to support the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation in its mission to find a cure and help people like my Aunt. This is not just my story, but my Auntie’s. Thank you for helping me achieve this deeply personal goal and raise money for a great cause!
