My Breathe Team Story

I’m honored to be running the Boston Marathon in honor of my aunt, Stacy Burke Danko, who lost her battle with cystic fibrosis in 2009, at the age of 44. My Aunt Stacy was an incredible person whose strength and love for life was inspiring to everyone.
Throughout her life, Stacy never let her disease slow her down. To me, she was "the fun aunt". While I was young, my memories of her are all filled with laughter, dancing, and her energy that was like no one else's.
She was a mother to three, a nurse at John's Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, and a national spokesperson for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. This race is my way of celebrating her life and raising awareness for those still battling CF.
CF is a genetic, life-shortening disease that devastates the lungs, pancreas, and other vital organs. CF makes it difficult to breathe and fight life-threatening infections, often leading to extensive lung damage and respiratory failure.
There is currently no cure for CF. My goal of raising $10,000 will go towards the research and science needed to drive our shared dream forward – a cure for everyone with CF.
