My Breathe Team Story
Matthew Bowman
Fundraising for 2026 Walt Disney World Marathon
Matthew Bowman
Are you having Deja vu all over again? 6 years ago, I embarked on a Dopey journey-run 48.6 miles in 4 days at Walt Disney World-the Dopey Challenge. I "succeeded" in that I earned my 6 medals, 6 shirts, and couldn't walk right for over a week. I've told many of you that it was a great 'once in a lifetime' opportunity, and will never do it again. And this still is true... but there was something I left out. The weather was so hot the day of the marathon, that runDisney shortened the race by 1.5 miles. So I have never technically run or finished a marathon. And that is one reason why I'm here...
Also, through your generosity, raised almost $3,000 for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. I'm more proud of that than anything. Since that time, amazing progress has been made with finding a cure, but we aren't quite there yet.
So I'm back, ready to work hard both on the pavement and the fundraising trail, to get into shape to earn my goal of finishing a marathon and break that $3,000 mark for the CFF.
There is currently no cure for cystic fibrosis and too many people with CF die young. I'm running to help change that reality.
CF is a genetic, life-shortening disease that devastates the lungs, pancreas, and other vital organs. CF makes it difficult to breathe and fight life-threatening infections, often leading to extensive lung damage and respiratory failure.
Every person born with cystic fibrosis is on a unique journey and experiences this challenging disease differently. While progress has been made, a long road lies ahead for far too many people fighting this terrible disease. We need a cure so that everyone with CF has a better chance to live a long, healthy life.
Will you help us end cystic fibrosis?
By donating to my fundraising goal, you have the power to advance the research and science needed to drive our shared dream forward - a cure for everyone with CF.
