My Xtreme Hike Story
Fundraising for North Carolina Fall Xtreme Hike
Steffanie Thomas
Thank you for visiting my page! I'll be hiking 30.1 Miles in One Day on the Appalachian Trail!
Why? Because there is currently no cure for CF and too many people die young. I'm hiking to help change that reality.
Our family friend, Jacob, or as my kids call him, Uncle Jacob, was born with CF. His sister, Emily, also was born with CF. I’m hiking for them, to help make any difference I can in finding a cure for CF.
CF is a genetic, life-shortening disease that devastates the lungs, pancreas, and other vital organs. CF makes it difficult to breathe and fight life-threatening infections, often leading to extensive lung damage and respiratory failure.
Jacob has endured countless hospitalizations, IV treatments, and a frightening decline in lung function. Thanks to the CF Foundation's relentless research and fundraising, in 2015 Jacob was blessed to be able to participate in a clinical drug trial that changed everything.
Today, he is a college graduate, working and thriving in Indianapolis, and Emily is doing well - healthy, creative, and living a full life. Their progress is a direct result of the science, treatments, and support that events like this hike make possible.
Every person born with cystic fibrosis is on a unique journey and experiences this challenging disease differently. While progress has been made, a long road lies ahead for far too many people fighting this terrible disease. We need a cure so that everyone with CF has a better chance to live a long, healthy life.
Will you help us end cystic fibrosis?
By donating to my fundraising goal, you have the power to advance the research and science needed to drive our shared dream forward – a cure for everyone with CF.
