My Great Strides Story

Samantha Erhard
Hi! I'm Owen's mom, Sam! Let me introduce you to - the fearless, flirtatious tornado of joy behind "Owen will Overcome!"
Owen is almost 2.5 years old and lives life at full volume. He's loud, curious, and completely fearless-which makes him an expert at peek-a-boo, counting to three before launching himself into a pile of pillows, and dramatically saying "ew" (a brand-new skill, used with questionable accuracy but incredible flair). He's a professional heart-stealer-especially with restaurant waitresses-flashing coy waves, blowing kisses, and hugging arms like it's his full-time gig.
He's also a big fan of Bluey (a favorite for the whole family) and Blippi (less beloved... mostly tolerated by his parents). He plays "night night/morning" on loop like it's an Olympic sport and loves his dogs Otis, Starla, and Simba-even if they suspect he was sent to Earth just to annoy them.
Owen was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis (CF) at six weeks old. CF isn't just about lungs-it affects multiple organs, including the pancreas, and comes with a complex, exhausting routine. Every morning at 5:30 a.m., Owen starts his day with a 30-minute session in his vest while receiving a series of nebulized medications. Before meals, he takes enzymes to help him absorb nutrients, and twice a day he takes Trikafta to help his genes function more like they should.
He's already spent 20 days in the hospital, has faced heart and kidney challenges, and had two surgeries on his foot-but you'd never know it watching him race around the house with a mischievous grin.
Most people don't realize how sensitive CF kids are to things like third-hand smoke, or that a cough doesn't always mean they're contagious. What Owen and kids like him need most is awareness, kindness, and a little extra space when they're under the weather.
Through it all, Owen just keeps being Owen-silly, sweet, unstoppable. We walk for him, and for the future he deserves. Thank you for supporting Owen will Overcome!
