I walk for Piper! 💜
The sweet and spicy little chicken nugget that doesn't let Cystic Fibrosis stand in her way! She's broken so many ceilings in her short 18 months on this earth + her 9 months belly-side -->
Piper is an incredibly resilient force to be reckoned with and the world is lucky to have such a strong girl like her.
We want progress like this to continue so that everyone with CF, including kids like Piper, can continue to thrive and live long, happy, healthy lives without the fear of CF complications and a life that is cut far too short. Soon, CF will stand for CURE FOUND.
What is CF?
CF is a genetic condition that causes the body to produce thick, sticky mucus that builds up in the lungs and digestive system. This can lead to serious breathing difficulties, frequent lung infections, and trouble absorbing nutrients. CF is a progressive disease, meaning it worsens over time, and it requires intensive daily management to keep patients as healthy as possible.
You have modulators like Trikafta now. Why is a cure so important?
Every person born with CF is on a unique journey and experiences this challenging disease differently. This is due to the over 2,000 known mutations that cause CF, with even more that are still undiscovered. While modulators like Trikafta have been genuinely life-changing (helping patients stay out of the hospital, stay off transplant/hospice lists, and even plan for retirement), they don't work for every mutation, and they are not a true cure. Whether a CFer is thriving on a modulator, still waiting for a treatment that works for them, or somewhere in between, the finish line is the same. Every person with CF, regardless of mutation, deserves access to effective treatments, and ultimately, a cure.
