My Great Strides Story
Fundraising for Jacksonville Great Strides 2026
Dina Shingleton
Our son was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis in June 2003 at just 22 months old. The following year, we were introduced to Great Strides—an incredible event held across the country and the largest fundraising effort for CF.
For the past 22 years, we have proudly been part of this mission. Every single year, we are humbled and amazed by the love, support, and generosity of those who stand with us. The funds raised truly make a difference—this is how a cure will be found.
In 1989, the discovery of the CFTR gene changed everything. It was the most significant breakthrough in CF history. Since then, scientists have identified over 2,000 mutations of this gene, which is why finding a cure is so complex—it’s not a one-size-fits-all disease.
But there is hope. Thanks to ongoing research and innovation through the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, life-changing medications like Kalydeco and Trikafta are transforming lives. With more therapies in development, we are closer than ever to a future where every person with CF can live a full, healthy life.
Our mission remains the same: to keep raising awareness and funds until CF stands for CURE FOUND.
Will you join us in the fight to end cystic fibrosis?
By donating to our fundraising efforts, you have the power to help advance the research and science needed to make our shared dream a reality—a cure for everyone living with CF.
