My CF Cycle for Life Story

Fundraising for 28th Annual Massachusetts CF Cycle for Life
Jim Osten
On October 4th I will be riding in my 25th Cycle for Life bike ride fundraiser for Cystic Fibrosis. This will be the first ride in a new location in Lexington, Mass closer to the CF medical lab where a lot of the new treatments have been created!
This year’s ride will have a large memorial aspect. As when the ride was started 28 years ago by a friend whose niece was born with CF – the ride was his way of giving back to help. It was named “Cycle for Haylee” back then. A few years later Haylee’s sister Jenna came along also diagnosed CF – and additional routes were added for the “Jenna Loop”! Unfortunately, in August Haylee lost her battle with the disease and passed away. She fought a strong battle and while there have been a lot of treatments added it was not enough to save Haylee.
The CF battle has seen positive results with the introduction of gene therapies that are having significant improvements for certain individuals with the CF gene. While there has been meaningful progress there is still a lot of work ahead to provide a road map for possible future therapies for a wider group. So, your donations are going to good use!
For those who are not aware Patty and I have been involved in fundraising efforts for CF for 35+ years. Patty more than I, as I participate and do what I am told (shocking I know!) Patty is the behind the scenes organizer. Patty actually went into labor with our oldest (Matt) while on a CF walk back in 1991 and now the whole family takes care of a rest stop on the ride!
Let’s continue to add tomorrows for them all!
With that said please support me!
Help me reach my fundraising goal!
This years pictures show Brad and Jenny wedding this summer and grandson Theo with is best friend!
