My Hike Story

On October 24, 2026, I will be participating in the Palo Duro Xtreme Hike, a challenging 20-mile hike through Palo Duro Canyon. This journey will require a lot of training, dedication, and perseverance-but my motivation is stronger than any challenge I may face.

I am hiking to continue to raise money and awareness for cystic fibrosis and to help in the fight until CF stands for "Cure Found."

My grandson, Beckett, is 10 years old and was born with cystic fibrosis (CF), a genetic, life-shortening disease that affects the lungs, pancreas, and other vital organs. CF makes it difficult to breathe and fight life-threatening infections and can lead to extensive lung damage and respiratory failure.

When Beckett turned 6, he was able to start taking Trikafta, a highly effective CFTR modulator that has had a transformative impact on the health and well-being of many people living with CF. While these therapies cannot reverse established lung damage, they can help slow the progression of the disease and dramatically change the course of CF over time.

More recently, Beckett was able to start Alyftrek, another important advancement in CF treatment. Even with these incredible medications, managing CF is still a daily commitment. Beckett's routine includes breathing treatments, vest therapy for airway clearance, and daily medications.

Staying active is also very important in helping keep his lungs clear. Beckett loves playing soccer, practicing karate, and fishing. He is an amazing, strong, and resilient boy who inspires me every day.

That is why I am taking on this 20-mile hike.
