My Xtreme Hike Story

On the sidelines of a soccer field, watching Zach learn to dislike soccer, I met April and her son, Reece and we all became fast friends. In every capacity imaginable, Zach and Reece were similar - both 7yr old boys and rambunctious as ever. However, Reece has cystic fibrosis and I soon learned that life experiences thus far had been anything but similar. We had an opportunity to see first-hand, the time spent doing daily treatments, the volume of medicines taken, the special scheduling necessary to prevent other CF students from sharing classrooms and even hallways, and, of course, the continually doctor appointments, testing, and hospitalizations. Their family has experienced life I can only imagine.
Since the soccer field, we have also seen significant innovations in treatments and, of course, new medications. I remember how excited April was when she said she finally received a mobile version of the dreaded vest that would allow Reece to take his treatments without having to sit still! And they are still coming.
There is currently no cure for cystic fibrosis and too many people with CF die young. I'm hiking to help change that reality.
CF is a genetic, life-shortening disease that devastates the lungs, pancreas, and other vital organs. CF makes it difficult to breathe and fight life-threatening infections, often leading to extensive lung damage and respiratory failure.
Every person born with cystic fibrosis is on a unique journey and experiences this challenging disease differently. While progress has been made, a long road lies ahead for far too many people fighting this terrible disease. We need a cure so that everyone with CF has a better chance to live a long, healthy life.
Will you help us end cystic fibrosis?
By donating to my fundraising goal, you have the power to advance the research and science needed to drive our shared dream forward - a cure for everyone with CF.

The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation is making a real difference in the lives of those with CF and their families, and I couldn't be prouder to support the work they have been able to accomplish.
