My grandson, Bowie, is now 10 and thanks to research funded by events like this, he is healthy, happy, and thriving.

But, at two weeks of age, his newborn screening came back positive for cystic fibrosis. For a while, it felt like the future we had imagined for our sweet boy had vanished. But, over time, we began to understand that while this diagnosis would absolutely be life-changing, it didn’t have to be life-ending.

Now, ten years later, life is full. There are things he must do every day to stay healthy, but everyone carries something—and we carry this with hope. Thanks to groundbreaking research and the unwavering support of friends, family, and communities like yours, the life expectancy for people with CF has dramatically improved. Still, there is no cure, and far too many lives are shortened by this disease.
 

CF is a genetic, life-shortening disease that devastates the lungs, pancreas, and other vital organs. CF makes it difficult to breathe and fight life-threatening infections, often leading to extensive lung damage and respiratory failure.  Bowie is one of approximately 30,000 Americans living with cystic fibrosis. They are sons and daughters, grandkids, friends and co-workers—fighting every day just to breathe. We are fighting for them. We are fighting for Bowie.
