Reef Bristol
Hi, I'm Reef. I first learned about Cystic Fibrosis when I met my best friend Bowie. I didn't really know what having CF meant until we went on family trips together and I saw all the things Bowie has to do every day to stay healthy. Twice a day, every single day, he has to wear a vest that shakes him like crazy for 30 minutes. That's in addition to maintaining his salt levels, keeping track of his medications and inhaler. Some of his medicine has to be taken with food so he has to remember to bring it if we go to dinner.
It's only because of ground breaking research that he's able to do these things every day and stay healthy. This research has dramatically improved life expectancy for people with CF. Still, there is no cure, and far too many lives are cut short by this disease.
Bowie found out that Australian doctors noticed young surfers with cystic fibrosis had significantly healthier lungs, so he worked with the San Diego CFF Chapter to start Surf for CF. The Surf for CF event raises crucial funds to continue research into a cure for CF, and the day starts with surf lessons for young CF patients.
Will you help us end cystic fibrosis?
By donating to my fundraising goal, you have the power to advance the research and science needed to drive our shared dream forward – a cure for everyone with CF. Thank you for your support!!
CF is a genetic, life-shortening disease that devastates the lungs, pancreas, and other vital organs. CF makes it difficult to breathe and fight life-threatening infections, often leading to extensive lung damage and respiratory failure. Bowie is one of approximately 30,000 Americans living with cystic fibrosis. They are sons and daughters, friends and co-workers—fighting every day just to breathe. We are fighting for them. We are fighting for Bowie.
