My Great Strides Story

Fundraising for Triangle Great Strides
Susan Scott-Yancey
As many of you know our family has been participating in Great Strides for Cystic Fibrosis for over 20 years. We walk in honor of one of Hailey's best friend's Allison. Our families have grown up together and feel honored to be a part of The A Team supporting a path to CF Cures!
Allison graduated May 3, 2024 from University of South Carolina with a BSN in Nursing. She began her nursing career at Duke University Medical Center as a Pediatric nurse and LOVES it! This past year, she successfully managed completing her final semester of clinicals 2-3 days a week and starting a new job working 3 day 12 hour shifts (alternating day and night shifts) as well as her health and CF regimen of daily vest treatments, breathing treatments and oral medications throughout the day. She continues to amaze us!
Since starting Trikafta( (elexacaftor/ivacaftor/tezacaftor), a triple combination therapy available to treat patients who have at least one F508del mutation, which is estimated to represent 90% of the CF population)in September 2019, Allison has been very healthy. No hospitalizations since July 2019 and a few viruses requiring oral antibiotics. Trikafta really has been a game changer for Allison and so many others fighting Cystic Fibrosis. It has been so rewarding to feel like we are playing a small part in some very encouraging advances over the last 24 years. With continued support, we are confident research will progress at a similar pace and the rarest CF gene mutations will be addressed, including Allison's.
By donating to my fundraising goal, you have the power to advance the research and science needed to drive our shared dream forward – a cure for everyone with CF. Thank you!
