My Breathe Team Story

Ashley Shaw
Thank you for joining me and contributing to my fundraiser as I train to run the Big Sur International Marathon with the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation's Breathe Team on April 27th, 2025!
There is currently no cure for cystic fibrosis and too many people with CF die young. I’m running the Big Sur International Marathon to help change that reality.
CF is a genetic, life-shortening disease that devastates the lungs, pancreas, and other vital organs. CF makes it difficult to breathe and fight life-threatening infections, often leading to extensive lung damage and respiratory failure.
Every person born with cystic fibrosis is on a unique journey and experiences this challenging disease differently. While progress has been made, a long road lies ahead for far too many people fighting this terrible disease. We need a cure so that everyone with CF has a better chance to live a long, healthy life.
This will be my first marathon and it is an ambitious one at 26.2 miles along the rolling hills of the California Coast from Big Sur Station to Carmel. The BSIM consists of approximately 2200 feet of elevation gain and perhaps worse, 2500 feet of loss. On top of that there is a hard, six hour time cut off so runners not able to maintain a 13:45 minute mile at designated checkpoints will be removed from the course and not able to complete the race. This race will be a massive training undertaking for me consisting of running 30-50 miles per week along with weekly strength and mobility workouts until the race date on April 27th. This will all be worth it though when I reach my goal of $2500 raised to benefit the CF Foundation!
Will you help us end cystic fibrosis?
By donating to my fundraising goal, you have the power to advance the research and science needed to drive our shared dream forward – a cure for everyone with CF.
