My Great Strides Story
Fundraising for Boston Great Strides 2026
Autumn Cabral
Hi everyone!
This year, I am walking in support of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation in honor of my dad, Joseph, who passed away from cystic fibrosis in 2013. CF has always been a part of my life, and participating in this walk is one way I can honor him while helping support the research that continues to change the future of this disease.
The first—and last—time I participated in this walk was the year my dad passed away. The walk happened to fall on my 10th birthday, which was the first birthday I spent without him. Despite how hard that time was, it ended up being one of the happiest and most meaningful birthdays of my life because I was surrounded by friends, family, and a community that understood what cystic fibrosis meant to us.
CF didn’t just affect my dad. My dad's brother, my godfather, is also living with cystic fibrosis today. Supporting this cause is not only a way for me to remember my dad, but also to continue supporting my godfather and the many others who are still fighting this disease every day.
Now, years later, CF is still a big part of my life in another way. I work at Boston Children's Hospital, where I have the privilege of working with cystic fibrosis patients. Seeing the strength of these patients every day has only deepened my motivation to do whatever I can to support them and the future of CF research.
Every step we take in this walk represents hope: hope for better treatments, hope for longer and healthier lives, and hope that one day no family will have to lose someone they love to cystic fibrosis.
If you’re able to donate, any contribution helps support the research and care programs working toward a cure.
Thank you for supporting this cause and for helping keep my dad’s memory walking with us. Together, we walk so that one day everyone living with cystic fibrosis can finally breathe easy.
