I am a long-time supporter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. I began supporting the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation 28 years ago when my two-year-old neighbor, Haley, was diagnosed. Since then, with help from Lockton Companies and many others, I have organized volunteer teams, garage sales, golf tournaments, and climbs to raise funds to ensure Haley and others impacted by CF with this disease lead longer, healthier lives.
Cystic fibrosis is an inherited chronic disease that affects the lungs and digestive system. A defective gene and its protein product cause the body to produce unusually thick, sticky mucus that clogs the lungs, leads to life-threatening lung infections, obstructs the pancreas, and stops natural enzymes from helping the body break down and absorb food.
Since Haley was diagnosed, the CF Foundation has championed the development of game-changing medications, increasing life expectancy from 30 to 55 years. (Haley has benefitted from this inspiring progress, remaining out of the hospital since starting treatment.) The funds raised truly make a difference, and we have more work to do. My goal is to see a day where life expectancy is no longer a concern for Haley or any other person living with CF.
