Lucy is 3 years old, and she is battling CF. Cystic Fibrosis is a genetic, life-shortening disease that devastates the lungs, pancreas, and other vital organs. CF makes it difficult to breathe and fight life-threatening infections, often leading to extensive lung damage and respiratory failure. Twice a day every day Lucy does a 30 minute vest treatment and a nebulizer treatment to help clear mucus from her lungs. When she is sick she does both these treatments 3 times a day. In addition to this she has to take multiple capsules of digestive enzymes every time she eats, whether it be a meal or a snack. Where we are at with research currently, she will have to continue all of these treatments every day for the rest of her life.
My goal and the goal of the CF Foundation is to change this. I am hiking to raise money and awareness for CF to advance treatments, improve quality of life, extend life expectancy- and to one day find a cure for CF.
