Fundraising for Grand Canyon Summer Xtreme Hike

On May 17, 2025, I’ll be joining my Chasse family to take on an epic challenge: hiking 25 miles across the Grand Canyon—rim to rim—in a single day. We're doing this as part of the Xtreme Hike to raise awareness and critical funds for Cystic Fibrosis (CF), a cause that hits incredibly close to home for me.
My beautiful niece, Lilly Gmelich, was diagnosed with CF at birth. CF is a lifelong, genetic disease that primarily affects the lungs and digestive system. Because of a faulty gene, Lilly’s body produces thick, sticky mucus that clogs her lungs, causing severe respiratory issues and persistent infections. Every single day, she has to take over 25 medications, complete 2–3 breathing treatments, and take enzymes before every meal or snack just to help her digest her food.
We’re hiking for Lilly—and for the thousands of others battling CF every day. Our hope is that the awareness we raise will help speed up research, fund treatments, and ultimately lead to a cure before the damage to her lungs becomes irreversible.
