The A-Team has participated since 2011 in honor my sister-in-law,Avis Powell. In 1972 at the age of three, she was diagnosed with CF and her parents were told she would only live to age seven. Avis defied the odds and in her 31 years she traveled the world, married, and had two healthy boys. She was able to do this because of advances made by doctors and scientists—and support of the CF Foundation working to add tomorrows and find a cure for cystic fibrosis. Seeing the huge leaps that have been achieved gives us great hope that soon no one will have their life cut short by CF.
CF is a genetic disease that devastates the lungs, pancreas, and other vital organs. CF makes it difficult to breathe and fight life-threatening infections, often leading to extensive lung damage and respiratory failure.
Every person born with cystic fibrosis is on a unique journey and experiences this challenging disease differently. While progress has been made, a long road lies ahead for far too many people fighting this terrible disease. We need a cure so that everyone with CF has a better chance to live a long, healthy life.
By donating to my fundraising goal, you have the power to advance the research and science needed to drive our shared dream forward – a cure for everyone with CF.
Avis, like many with CF, was a dynamo who embraced the years she had. Which were too few.
The good news is this disease is treatable bcuase of CFF. And more and more efforts to cure it are becoming a reality. But only if people like you help.
