Captain & Cita Are Fighting for Bowie 

Being Bowie’s grandparents is one of the greatest joys of our lives.

When Bowie was only two weeks old, our family learned that he had cystic fibrosis. We watched his parents face the fear and uncertainty that came with that diagnosis, and like any grandparents, we wished we could somehow take it all away.

We couldn’t take CF away — but we could stand beside him.

Now Bowie is 11, and we have had the incredible privilege of watching him grow into a happy, funny, active and amazing kid. He surfs, plays sports, makes us laugh, and embraces life. We are incredibly grateful for every moment.

We also know what it takes to keep him healthy. Behind the scenes are daily treatments, medications, therapies and countless doctor visits. CF never takes a day off, and neither does Bowie.

The incredible progress in cystic fibrosis treatment over Bowie’s lifetime gives us so much hope. Research funded by the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation has helped give Bowie a future that looked very different when he was first diagnosed.

But the work isn’t finished. There is still no cure, and not everyone living with CF can benefit from the treatments available today.

That’s why we are supporting Bowie’s Brigade at Surf for CF on September 20 at Seaside Reef in Encinitas.

As his grandparents, there isn’t much we wouldn’t do for Bowie.
