It’s that time of year again! Time to start fundraising for our Tyler Great Strides Walk. I want to thank you all for your continued support to help find a cure for cystic fibrosis.
My name is Maci, and I am currently a Senior at the University of Oklahoma, where I will be graduating in May with a bachelor's degree in Health and Exercise Science. I am an active member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority and cherish the meaningful connections I've built over the past four years. Upon graduation, I plan to continue my studies at University of Texas at Tyler, pursuing a nursing career, where I can make meaningful impact in patients' lives. My family is very important to me, and I always look forward to spending time with loved ones. Throughout college, I've learned to take care of myself independently and strive to live life to the fullest!
Hopefully, you have seen the progress which has been made in the past few years to help some of the CF patients. So far, there is no cure, but a drug, Trikafta, was approved by the FDA at the end of 2019 and has been very beneficial for patients with one copy of the Delta F508 gene - LIKE ME! I have been taking Trikafta, and while it has truly helped me, I do experience side effects and still must take antibiotics when I get sick. Although I have seen improvements with Trikafta, I continue my breathing treatments twice a day and take up to 40 pills to keep myself healthy. CF is part of my life, but it does not control my life! My fight will not be finished until there is a cure for ALL people with CF.
