It’s that time of year again! Time to start fundraising for our Tyler Great Strides Walk. I want to thank you all for your continued support to help find a cure for cystic fibrosis.
I'm Maci and I am a Senior at the University of Oklahoma (Boomer Sooner!). I am involved in Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority, and I love spending time with my sisters. I will be graduation with Health and Exercise Science in May and I plan to continue my studies at UT Tyler in Nursing. I dream of becoming a PA and helping others who are sick. I love coming home and visiting my family, especially my niece and nephew. Since I have been in college, I have taken the role of taking care of myself on my own. I strive to live my life to the fullest!
Hopefully, you have seen the progress which has been made in the past few years to help some of the CF patients. So far, there is no cure, but a drug, Trikafta, was approved by the FDA at the end of 2019 and has been very beneficial for patients with one copy of the Delta F508 gene, LIKE ME! I have been taking Trikafta and I do feel like it is truly helping me, but I have had some side effects and still must take antibiotics when I get sick. Although I have seen improvements because of Trikafta, I still do my breathing treatments twice a day and take up to 40 pills to keep myself healthy. CF is part of my life, but it does not control my life! My fight will not be finished until there is a cure for ALL people with CF.
