My Great Strides Story
Fundraising for Wichita Great Strides 2026
Gayle Florio
Hello friends, family, and supporters of Fighting with the Florios,
First off, we want to thank you for the donations you have given to Sophia and Savannah and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation over the years. Our grandchildren have directly benefited from the therapies that have been developed by CFF. Without your generosity over all these years, these medical breakthroughs would not have been possible, and they would not be thriving like they are today. This past year has been one of the healthiest years for them. They replaced Kalydeco with Alyftrek medication. Alyftrek is a once a day medication and for the girls has less side effects than Kalydeco.
There was a time, not long ago, when we would celebrate people with CF living to see later childhood years. Now, we celebrate people with CF achieving all kinds of milestones -- graduating from college, entering the workforce, having children, and – living a long normal life.
But not everyone is fortunate enough to be able to benefit from existing medications like Savannah and Sophia have. The Foundation has fostered the development of more than a dozen CF treatments along with 40+ therapies in a drug development pipeline. While existing treatments have had incredible impact on the lives of those with CF, not every person with CF can benefit from them, either because their disease is too advanced or because their specific genetic mutation will not respond, leaving many continuing to face complications, hospitalizations, and shortened lifespans. We want everyone with CF to experience what my grandchildren have -- great health and the anticipation of long and productive lives.
Our goal is to cure cystic fibrosis for EVERYONE. I cannot thank you enough for how far your donations have advanced our successes and am asking you today to continue to donate so we can reach the goal of a cure for everyone.
Money funds science and science leads to a CURE for ALL those living with CF!
Until it’s done,
Gayle and Mike Florio
