Seven years ago our world was turned upside down when we were told our unborn daughter would have cystic fibrosis (CF). CF is a progressive, genetic disease that makes it difficult to breathe and fight life-threatening infections, often leading to extensive lung damage and respiratory failure. 

We knew nothing about CF and immediately felt overwhelmed by the pressures of raising a child with a life-threatening illness. We felt alone but quickly learned that there was a whole community ready to stand with us. We hike for Finley but for every other person bearing the weight of this devastating disease.

There is currently no cure for cystic fibrosis and too many people with CF still face the sobering reality of a shortened life span. The fact that we talk about the life expectancy for our 7-year-old daughter is unacceptable to us so we continue fighting for a cure.

We are seeing amazing medical results develop right in front of our eyes, thanks in large part to the efforts in fundraising that are an integral part in allowing events such as Xtreme Hike to take place. We have come a long way, but we cannot stop.
