My Xtreme Hike Story
Fundraising for Yosemite Xtreme Hike 2026
Benjamin Awtrey
14 years later, I’m hiking again—with my dad.
This October, I’m heading to Yosemite with an amazing group of friends and family to take part in the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation’s Hike for a Cure.
This hike is especially meaningful to me because it’s something I’ve been connected to for most of my life.
My first CF Hike was back in 2012 in Massachusetts, when I was just 12 years old. Technically, I wasn’t old enough to participate—but somehow I managed to get away with it. Since then, these hikes have become a pretty special family tradition.
This year, I’ll be back on the trail—but this time, I’ll be hiking alongside my dad.
Last year, our group took on the Grand Canyon and raised more than $150,000 for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. According to my dad it was evidently an incredible experience, and this year we’re hoping to raise even more.
WHY I’M HIKING
Cystic fibrosis is a genetic disease that affects the lungs and other organs and requires a lifetime of treatment. The progress made over the past several decades has been remarkable, but there is still work to do.
The money raised through Hike for a Cure helps support research, patient care, advocacy, and the search for better treatments—and ultimately a cure.
That’s why I’m asking you to join me in supporting this effort.
Whether you’ve donated to one of our hikes before or this is your first time, every contribution makes a difference.
HELP ME REACH MY GOAL
I’m excited to take on Yosemite, spend a few days on the trail with some great people, and hopefully raise a meaningful amount of money along the way.
If you’re able, please consider making a donation to support my hike and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
Thank you for supporting me—and for helping us keep moving toward a cure.
See you on the trail!
— Ben
