Yosemite Xtreme Hike
Yosemite Xtreme Hike
Every Xtreme Hike participant is driven by a dream that all people with cystic fibrosis should have the chance to live a long, healthy life. By joining us at Yosemite Xtreme Hike, you can help make a difference for people living with CF.
At Yosemite Xtreme Hike, hikers are supported by trained hike guides from YExplore, leading them safely throughout the trail from beginning to end. You can expect breathtaking views, a wealth of knowledge from your guides, to meet new friends, and to share stories on the trail. You will be supported and encouraged in making it to your personal summit - all while fundraising to find a cure for cystic fibrosis.
2026 Trail Options:
Option 1: 19 miles & 3,500 ft elevation gain
This adventurous route begins on May Lake Road and winds around the sparkling shores of Tenaya Lake before following the peaceful Murphy Creek Trail through lodgepole pine forests. From there, the path connects to the May Lake Trail, leading to the serene alpine waters of May Lake, nestled beneath towering granite cliffs. The journey's highlight is the climb to Mt. Hoffman, the geographic center of Yosemite, where hikers are rewarded with sweeping 360° views of Half Dome, Yosemite Valley, and the Sierra Nevada. After soaking in the summit panorama, the route descends back to May Lake and retraces the trail to the starting point, offering a perfect blend of lakeside beauty, forest tranquility, and high-country grandeur.
Option 2: 10 miles & 2,800 ft elevation gain
This rewarding hike begins on May Lake Road and follows the May Lake Trail through tranquil pine forests to the shimmering alpine waters of May Lake. From here, a spur trail leads to the summit of Mt. Hoffman, the geographic center of Yosemite, offering breathtaking 360° views of Half Dome, Yosemite Valley, and the surrounding Sierra peaks. After soaking in the panoramic vistas, retrace your steps back to May Lake and return to the trailhead, making this route a perfect choice for hikers seeking a shorter yet unforgettable high-country adventure.
