Struttin For Sutton

Welcome to our Team Struttin For Sutton page! It's often hard to grasp that we have been a part of the mission to CURE CF for almost 14 years now.  Each year brings more promise that we will see a day when this disease is cured.  That HOPE continues to stay alive solely because of the generosity of all of YOU, who have helped us over the years.

You may be confused that you are clicking on the Zion Xtreme Hike page instead of the Grand Canyon Xtreme Hike page...what is happening Spooners?!  If you've followed our "hike (or strut!) for a cure" journey, you know we were ALL IN to complete the Grand Canyon Xtreme Hike again this year.  Given the ongoing uncertainty around trail access, water availability, lodging, and overall logistics-particularly on the North Rim after the devastating fires-we felt there were simply too many unknowns for us this year.

With that being said, our CF mission remains the same, and our love for hiking continues.  The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation has over 15+ Xtreme Hikes all over the United States.  That provides an incredible opportunity for us to experience a NEW hike, log some miles, tackle extreme terrain, and continue pushing ourselves mentally and physically while ramping up our fundraising for this cause we passionately believe in.

This year, we are tackling Xtreme Hike #2 in Zion National Park! We will join strangers with the same goal as ours on The West Rim Trail for a stunning 16.2-mile journey from Lava Point down to the Grotto in Zion Canyon. It features a 3,600-foot descent and unforgettable scenery throughout. This strenuous, but rewarding route, will take us along high plateaus, past sweeping views of Wildcat Canyon, the White Cliffs, and the dramatic formations of the Great West Canyon. The final miles of the trail zigzags down carved cliffside switchbacks, passes scenic canyons and descents into Zion Canyon-finishing at the banks of the Virgin River. We are excited to, once again, embark on a new Xtreme Hike destination, all in the name of fundraising, raising awareness, and continuing our mission to help find a cure for everyone living with Cystic Fibrosis.

Sutton continues to live a VERY healthy life with minimal complications from his CF related disease. He is a BUSY teenager, keeping mom and dad chasing him across state lines for rock climbing, trying to keep up with him on the ski slopes, seronading us with his trombone talents, and having us as his chauffers for golf lessons.  He has officially outsmarted his mom, and keeps dad on his toes when it comes to keeping up with his accelerated math skills.  From a medical standpoint, he has been able to wean off some of his inhalers, and his list of medical specialists and diagnoses is dwindling.  Years of prayers have been answered. However, not all those with CF, whom we have come to know and love over the last 14 years since his diagnosis, are as fortunate. There is still no cure, and many are still losing their battles at far too young an age. When we heard the WHYs from fellow hikers last year in The Canyon, it only validated that we don’t do this for US, but for those who need drastic hope for a happy ending.  As we continue to train and prepare for the Xtreme Hike event each year, we carry heavily on our hearts ALL CF Warriors fighting this disease.

Over the years, Struttin For Sutton and Puttin For Sutton’s unwavering supporters have made a significant impact on the advancements made by the CFF through our fundraising. We are asking for your help once again. Whether it is your prayers, a donation to this event or our nonprofit, or sharing our story, YOU play a VITAL role in our mission efforts. The philanthropic commitment we are hoping to achieve is $5000 per hiker, with 100% going to the CF Foundation. It is a BIG financial goal for a BIG mission. We are blessed to continue to have one of the greatest tribes. Thanks to all of you that continue to stand beside us until the day CF stands for CURE FOUND.
