My Great Strides Story
Fundraising for Ann Arbor Great Strides 2026
Nieman Family
We walk for our daughter, Alexa.
Alexa will turn 27 this May, and she’s been able to build a life that once felt uncertain—something we didn’t always know would be possible when she was first diagnosed.
Thanks to incredible medical advances like Trikafta and the newer once-daily treatment Alyftrek, Alexa has been able to live a fuller, more hopeful life. Her life expectancy has improved, and for the first time, she truly has a future.
And that future exists because of people like you.
The support we’ve received over the years has helped fund the research that made treatments like Trikafta—and now Alyftrek—possible. Quite simply—your generosity has changed Alexa’s life.
But cystic fibrosis is still very real.
Over the past few months, Alexa has been hospitalized three times due to CF-related lung exacerbations. Even with all this progress, these moments are a reminder that the fight isn’t over.
Cystic Fibrosis affects every person differently. While progress has been life-changing for many, not everyone benefits equally—and no one is cured.
That’s why we walk.
We walk for Alexa, for families like ours, and for everyone still waiting for their breakthrough. We walk because progress matters—but a cure matters more.
Together, we can help make cystic fibrosis stand for “Cure Found.”
