For My Cousin

Fundraising for 2026 Bank of America Chicago Marathon
Justin Fernando
This fall, I will be running the Chicago Marathon with Team Cystic Fibrosis, and I am honored to dedicate every mile to a cause that is close to my heart.
I have a cousin who is 26 years old and living with cystic fibrosis. She was diagnosed at just four months old, and since then, CF has been a constant part of her life—and of our family. Her diagnosis was one of a few reasons why I pursued a career in healthcare. Listening to her family struggling within the healthcare system inspired me to step into a role where I might be able to make a difference.
CF is a genetic, life-shortening disease that devastates the lungs, pancreas, and other vital organs. CF makes it difficult to breathe and fight life-threatening infections, often leading to extensive lung damage and respiratory failure.
Running 26.2 miles is a physical and mental challenge, but it does not compare to what my cousin faces every single day. I am running to raise awareness, support critical research, and help fund better treatments—and one day, a cure.
I am asking for your support as I take on this marathon in hopes of one day everyone with cystic fibrosis will live a long healthy life.
Any donation, big or small, helps make a real difference for the thousands of families like mine affected by cystic fibrosis.
Thank you for your encouragement, generosity, and for cheering me on along the way. I will be carrying your support with me every step of the race.
