My Breathe Team Story
Fundraising for 2026 Bank of America Chicago Marathon
Kaitlin Cassidy
Last year, I thought I’d be running the Chicago Marathon for the first time. Instead, I found myself sidelined by a femoral neck stress fracture and facing a long road of recovery. As difficult as that chapter was, it gives this marathon an even deeper meaning and purpose.
This year, I’m finally getting the chance to run Chicago and I’m so proud to be running with the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation in honor of my Uncle David and everyone impacted by cystic fibrosis.
There is still no cure for cystic fibrosis (CF), and too many people with CF continue to face a shortened and uncertain future. CF is a genetic, life-shortening disease that can cause severe damage to the lungs and other vital organs, making something as vital as breathing a daily challenge.
My family knows that reality all too well. I run in memory of my Uncle David, and in honor of everyone who has fought, continues to fight, and dreams of a future without CF.
After everything this past year has taught me about patience, resilience, and not taking my health for granted, crossing the finish line in Chicago will mean so much more than a marathon. It will be a celebration of how far I’ve come and a chance to help create a future where people with CF can have the same opportunity to live long, healthy lives.
Every donation, no matter the size helps fund the research, care, and innovation needed to move us closer to a cure.
Will you help me run toward a future without cystic fibrosis?
